Inside LaConsola
Built for people who keep ten terminals open.
Every feature in LaConsola exists because a sysadmin got tired of switching windows mid-incident. Here is what you get on day one, free, on all four platforms — now in English and Spanish, with your secrets sealed in the OS keyring.
01 — Sessions
Twelve hosts, one window.
Tabs across the top, a session list down the side, and a keyboard shortcut for both. Each connection keeps its own scrollback and working directory, so a staging command never lands on production by accident.
- Named sessions grouped by environment
- Jump hosts, bastions and proxy chains
- Split panes for log-tailing side by side
- Scrollback search across the session
02 — Files
SFTP that behaves like a file manager.
Two panes, local on the left, remote on the right. Drag a build artefact across, rename it, set permissions, then watch the transfer rate tick over in the status bar.
- Recursive folder upload and download
- Resume interrupted transfers instead of restarting
- Permissions, timestamps and symlink handling
- Parallel streams for many small files
03 — Snippets
A runbook the whole team can press.
Turn tribal knowledge into a button. Steps run in order, output streams back per host, and destructive steps stop for confirmation unless you explicitly disable it.
- Run on one host or the entire target list
- Variables for branch, service and environment
- Per-host result table after every run
- Plain YAML you can review in a pull request
04 — Comfort
Day mode, night mode, your keys.
Bright office in the morning, dark room at midnight — the whole interface follows your toggle. Credentials stay on your machine and nothing leaves it.
- Full day and night themes, remembered per device
- Keys, passphrases and 2FA prompts handled natively
- Host key verification with a visible fingerprint
- No telemetry, no cloud account, no sync server
05 — Language
English and Spanish, out of the box.
LaConsola ships with two complete interface languages. Menus, dialogs, session lists, the snippet editor, error messages and every preference label are translated. Switch from the header or from Settings → Language — open sessions keep running and the choice is remembered per device.
- Full English and Spanish (es-ES) interface
- Change language without disconnecting a live session
- Terminal output, logs and file paths are never translated
- Dates, numbers and the 24-hour clock follow the locale
06 — Terminal preferences
Make the terminal behave the way you type.
A comfortable terminal is a personal one. Settings → Terminal holds the handful of switches people actually change, and every change applies to sessions that are already open.
- Font family — any installed monospace face
- Font size from 10 to 24 px, live preview
- Scrollback buffer from 1 000 to 100 000 lines
- Blinking cursor on or off
- Copy text to the clipboard as soon as it is selected
- Ask for confirmation before closing a live session
- Keepalive interval so idle gateways never drop you
07 — Credential storage
Secrets encrypted by your OS keyring.
Passwords, passphrases and saved private keys are encrypted at rest by the operating system's own credential store. On Linux that is gnome_libsecret — the GNOME keyring, reached through libsecret. LaConsola never writes a plaintext secret into a config file and never sends one anywhere except the host you are connecting to.
- Secrets are encrypted with the OS keyring (
gnome_libsecreton Linux) - macOS Keychain and Windows Credential Manager on the other platforms
- Locked whenever your desktop session is locked
- Optional master passphrase for shared machines
- Delete a host and its stored secret goes with it
# settings → security store: os-keyring linux: gnome_libsecret ✔ 7 passwords encrypted ✔ 2 private keys sealed # nothing written in plaintext ~/.config/laconsola/known_hosts public keys only ✔ keyring unlocked by your login session
